Industrial Visit was organized by BITES- Board for IT Education Standards to M/s Toyota Kirloskar Motors Pvt Ltd, (TKMPL) Bidadi plant on 18.08.2023 for Teaching Faculties from various Engineering and Management College across Karnataka. A total of 26 Faculty members visited M/s TKMPL campus accompanied by Prof. Bhargav and Smt. Jyothy from BITES.

 

All Visitors were informed to assemble near Kengeri metro Station by 8.30 am, where TKMPL vehicle was arranged for the visit. Mr. Arun Kumar San from TKMPL, Leadership and Industrial relation department welcomed and accompanied all faculty members to Industry Campus.

 

All Visitors were welcomed, followed by refreshment and Mr. Jagadeesh San along with TKMPL Intern Ms. Supriya san and her team addressed the gathering and Informed about the days schedule. Mr. Jagadeesh San gave brief corporate presentation on TKM growth story followed by presentation by Mr. Venkatesh san from TKMPL, Leadership and Industrial relation department gave presentation on Best Practices of Toyota and their Manufacturing Philosophy. Mr. Venkatesh san taught us about TKMPL journey in practicing International standards in quality, most of them derived from Japan. Also from presentation we were pleased to know about how TKMPL is in forefront in implementing quality tools like Toyota Production system, Kanban System, Pattern Production System, Kaizen ,Just in Time (JIT), Safety Trolley Movement, Karakuri System, Heijunka, etc.

 

Also Dr. Selvan Co-Chairman BITES, Bengaluru address the gathering about the efforts made by BITES to get the permission for TKM plant Visit and usefulness of the program.

 

Also Mr. Venkatesh san and his team made effort to teach Lean Manufacturing system by practical demonstration, where every faculty member was made has party on role who resemble actual process owners of a manufacturing company, different roles are designated for each of the faculty like dealer, customer, assemble personnel’s, transport personnel’s, manager, supervisor, CEO etc then mock manufacturing and distribution of Finished goods was played, it was the best part of the visit , every one of us realized how important is lean Manufacturing Process.

 

At 12.00 pm the Plant Visit was scheduled ,where Mr. Nagesh san and his team accompanied all faculty members in 2 batches to visit Production lines of Toyota, This plant mainly produces existing models of the Toyota like Toyota Glanza, Legender, Rumion, Camry Hybrid, Innova Crysta , Fortuner, Innova Hycross, Urban Crusier Hyryder. There were totally 4 different section of manufacturing a automobile namely Press shop, Weld Shop, Painting Shop and Assembly section, We had a opportunity to see real time manufacturing practices in assembly section and Assembly section had about 21 different station and all parts right from engine, tyres and electrical unit, wind shield and dash board etc were assembled at this section.

 

After Lunch session, Ms. Supriya San and team accompanied Visitors for Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI), Where Mr.Pai, Vice Principal of the Institute received us and gave Presentation about achievements and growth story of TTTI, he also took all of us to various labs of TTTI, all of us were very much impressed about the practical approach of the institute to impart present day technical skills required to its students.

 

Even we had Opportunity to know about the Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) initiatives taken by TKMPL which include building of schools, public toilets, Greenathon practices, Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI), Eco zone initiative by Toyota etc. . Overall it was excellent and eye opening Visit to a industry which practices International Manufacturing Standards assuring quality in every step and Sustainable Manufacturing practices.

 

After the High-tea session at 5.00 pm, Question and answer session was held with Mr. Shankara G san, Vice President, Human resources at Toyota Kirloskar Motors and Mr. Shashidhar Sangurmath san, Deputy general Manager at Toyota Kirloskar Motors, Q & A session was interesting , all faculties got insight about expectations of Industry from academic group, Finally group photo session was held.
